December 2019 End of Watch Monthly Update

November 2019 - 9 Officers Down

The end of the year is quickly approaching and for a lot of families this time of year can’t pass quickly enough. The deafening silence of missing laughter when the children are opening presents can echo deeply.

November left us with 9 line of duty deaths. The total for the year thus far reflects 115 seats that will be left empty at the Christmas family dinner. It’s not only the officers who sacrificed their lives in the service of their communities but the families who lost a brother, sister, father, mother, son and daughter. These officers are gone but far from forgotten.

Join us locally or from wherever you are in honoring the fallen of November by throwing some weight in your ruck and covering a mile for each officer down. The suggested weight is 20 pounds, as this represents the average weight of duty gear an officer carries on a daily basis. The goal mileage is one mile per officer. You can adjust your weight and miles to your current fitness goals. This month let the weight also represent the emotional weight carried by the families. You will be speaking volumes through your actions that not only are you willing to help carry the burden for the officers but also for the families left behind as well.
