May 2019 End of Watch Monthly Update

April 2019 - 6 Officers Down

With the annual End of Watch Memorial Ruck right around the corner, it’s easy to get distracted from our monthly mission to honor the fallen throughout the year. As of now the current count for officers down in April is 6. While this is a lower number than most months, we still take each officer down very seriously and bow our heads reverently for each one.

Since last month’s ruck, a particular Bible verse has been on my mind:

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
— John 15:13

Each day law enforcement officers go to work knowing that each moment is a gift. We understand that at a moment’s notice our last act on this earth could be in defense of another. For that we are prepared.

This month's EOWMR will take place at Brew Angels. We will meet at 4 PM on May 11th in the back parking lot. At 6 PM, immediately following the ruck, we will have a Meet and Greet for the athletes and volunteers at Brew Angels. At the Meet and Greet the team will be able to link up and discuss a strategy and a Q&A session with the board members of the End of Watch Foundation. As with all of our monthly rucks, the suggested minimum weight is 20 pounds to match the average weight of duty gear an officer carries on a daily basis. We will ruck one mile per officer down according to the most current information at the time of the ruck’s beginning.

This year’s annual End of Watch Memorial Ruck will take place May 16-18th 2019. Kick off will be at 8 AM from the Santa Rosa County Fairgrounds and end at the same location on May 18th. We invite all our athletes from prior legs in addition to public support to attend and walk the final mile at 4:30pm on May 18th.

You will need to arrive at the Fair Grounds around 4pm to be shuttled to the one mile mark. Immediately following the final mile there will be a ceremony at 5pm to honor the fallen and celebrate our athletes’ accomplishment. We invite everyone to join us for this finish line ceremony.

Take Care,
Caleb Cook
